PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WJAR) — Several trees came down in Portsmouth Wednesday afternoon during a powerful storm.
Cell phone video captured the moments before the winds and rain took over parts of the town of Portsmouth.
Patti Polselli was home when it hit.
“It got really and the sky got really dark. I mean really windy. I was ready to go into the basement,” she explained.
Residents said it a frightening few minutes.
“Trees just flying by me, branches hitting the house,” explained Mike Nott.
Nott said he was walking home from the market when the skies began to turn. He said the noise echoed throughout the neighborhood.
“I have experienced one tornado before when I was in the south and it sounded like a roaring train. This sounded just like that,” said Nott.
Another homeowner lost power immediately as the winds ripped the lines from the house.
They were thankful cleanup crews were readily available.
For others, cleanup will be a few more days.
No injuries have been reported.
